1. What is the University of Waikato Joint Institute at Hangzhou City University(hereinafter referred to as the "NZUWI")?

NZUWI is a non-independent legal entity affiliated to Hangzhou City University (HZCU) and approved by the Ministry of Education of the People’s Republic of China. It is the first Sino-foreign cooperative education institute among all Chinese universities and colleges of the same kind, and New Zealand’s first Sino-foreign cooperative education institute at undergraduate level in China.

 

2. What advantages does NZUWI have?

Embracing the concept of “overseas study at home”, NZUWI makes great efforts to duplicate the education environment in New Zealand. It possesses three core advantages: regional advantage (Our campus is located in downtown area of Hangzhou City), educational advantage (international faculty, English-only teaching environment and small-class teaching) and cost advantage (Degrees of two universities will be awarded upon the completion of four-year domestic study).

 

3. How does NZUWI guarantee its teaching quality?

Introducing the higher education quality assurance system of New Zealand, NZUWI will be academically evaluated by the New Zealand Committee of University Academic Programs (CUAP) and audited by New Zealand Academic Quality Agency (AQA) every year, to guarantee that its teaching quality is as high as that of New Zealand. The audit report will be publicised. In addition, NZUWI is also under rigid assessments of education authorities at all levels in China on its Sino-foreign cooperative education quality.

 

4. What are the admission requirements of NZUWI on English? Is there any way to improve English proficiency?

In order to meet the requirements of international education and English-only teaching mode, applicants must meet the minimum English Language requirements which equates to a score of a minimum of 100.

 

5. Are students allowed to transfer their majors among the three disciplines of NZUWI?

The number of students of the three disciplines offered by NZUWI is clearly stipulated by the Ministry of Education, namely, 120 students for Finance, 60 for Convention Economy and Management and 60 for Industrial Design. If the number of students of target major does not reach limited amount, students can apply for transferring into that major, and the application will be approved if the applicants meet the HZCU major transferring requirements.

 

6. Is there any opportunity for NZUWI students to study overseas during their 4-year study at HZCU?

NZUWI thoroughly supports students to take part in overseas learning and exchange programs to expand their international horizon. All NZUWI students have chances to join in different kinds of overseas learning and exchange programs. For students who intend to study at UW, they can apply for study for one or two semesters at UW after completing courses in the first two academic years at HZCU.

 

7.Does the degree awarded from UW have the same effect and quality as the degree awarded to students in New Zealand.

Yes, identical.

 

8. Is it possible for students to pursue a master’s degree in UW after they obtain the UW bachelor’s degree?

Students who complete study at NZUWI and obtain the UW bachelor degree can directly apply for a masters degree program of UW without giving any English proficiency certificate. 

Following the approval to enter NZUWI, students will be informed by NZUWI of the requirements and objectives of self-learning in English during the summer holiday. In the first academic year, intensive University English courses and Academic English courses will be given by 10 foreign academic English teachers. Moreover,an Learning Support Centre (LSC)will be established and maintained by foreign teachers who will provide one-to-one instructions after class to help students improve English proficiency.
